Elevator Pitch: The Pope, following in the succession of Peter, is the head of the Church instituted by Christ. The bishops are given authority and lead their flocks under the guidance of the Pope. Lay people are awesome, and are guided by their bishop (who is guided by the Pope).

Submarine Toss: (Submarine Toss doesn’t actually make much sense, but never mind that)

We pick up this week’s RTC where Cory left off – Apostolic Succession! Which means we get to chat about my favorite saint, Pope, fisherman, and personality of the bible – Peter. In Matthew 16 Jesus names Peter as the “Rock.”

The scripture says: “And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church and the powers of death shall not prevail against it.” I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” With this statement the foundation was laid for the Church – Paragraph 881: the pastoral office of Peter and the other apostles belongs to the Church’s very foundation and is continued by the bishops under the primacy of the Pope.”
