The Spirit – John the Baptist, Mary, and Jesus all had it. The Spirit is dynamic and integral to our faith and the Church wouldn’t be the Church without the Spirit.

Section IV: The Spirit of Christ in the fullness of Time
This section begins with John the Baptist, the forerunner of the coming Lord, who, by virtue of being sent from God was “filled with the holy spirit even from his mother’s womb.” So even though the Spirit had not yet descended upon the world, John carried with him the spirit of God.

Then in paragraph 721 the CCC talks about Mary the ever-virgin Mother of God, the “dwelling place” where the Son of God and the Holy Spirit could dwell among men. Mary was in herself full of grace, having been conceived immaculately without sin. She was the perfect vessel to carry Christ and the Spirit of God to the earth and she was a perfect and remarkable mother and person all around. The CCC points out a really interesting point that I hadn’t considered, but makes beautiful sense: Mary is the gate through which humans come into communion with Christ in the world….
